Piano School H.I.M. Kisarazu ( Kisarazu, Chiba, Japan, Representative : Aya Hagimoto ) will hold the first "Handmade Instrument Workshop" event for elementary school students during summer vacation on August 23, 2024 ( Friday ) at FLAT, the library in the station.
The aim of this summer vacation event is to enjoy music by creating musical instruments using waste materials from home such as plastic bottles and plastic wrap cores.
From the perspective of H.I.M. Kisarazu's usual philosophy of "Always have music by your side" and the SDGs, we will share the enjoyment of music and the importance of reusing waste materials through the workshop. In addition, children will experience the joy of connecting with others through music by playing songs with their friends on instruments they have made themselves.
[Plastic bottles, plastic wrap cores, etc. transformed into musical instruments ! ]
Becoming aware of good sounds around us
Waste plastic bottles, plastic wrap cores, empty tissue boxes, etc. around us are handled with the intention of "making them into musical instruments" by the creators. From the moment they are handled with the intention of turning them into musical instruments, the waste materials are transformed into musical instruments. Through the experience of making a good sounding musical instrument from things around you, you will learn the joy of infusing a role back into waste materials. This experience fosters a sustainable perspective and encourages ingenuity that can be useful in everyday life.
[Endless possibilities through imagination and ingenuity]
A piano is a musical instrument that is pre-tuned by a tuner so that the correct pitch can be played if you put your finger down on it. On the other hand, instruments made from familiar materials can vary greatly in tone depending on individual creativity and ingenuity. For example, when making a rain stick by drilling numerous holes in a plastic wrap core and filling it with toothpicks and rice, the number of holes and the material used to fill them change the tone. This process stimulates exploration and ingenuity, and gives the participants the joy of transforming waste materials, usually called trash, into treasures. In the workshop, participants will experience the endless possibilities of tones created by imagination and ingenuity.
[Handmade musical instruments that nurture "zest for life"]
Handmade musical instruments workshop is a place where children can enhance their self-esteem and deepen communication with parents, children and peers. Hagimoto believes that academic ability is the "power to live. The "power to live" is the ability to find and solve problems on one's own, and music is ideal for nurturing this power. The workshop will be held with the hope that children will make the most of what they have learned through music, and that it will lead them to a life in society.
